You know, I personally try to keep my own political views off these forums. But this time, i'm here to personally ask (beg) you to sign this electronic petition:

http://www.stopFCC.com

In case you didn't notice, the government "protected" us yesterday but passing the bill to increase fines for what the FCC deems "offensive" to the tune of $500,000.oo per incident. Max of 3 million per day.

The religious right is going to protect me, from being offended by something i hear on the radio, or see on TV. All because a 40 year old no-talent black woman popped her tit out during the superbowl halftime. Our government is reactionary. They recieved over 500,000 complains about the offensive material and they immidiately attacked Bubba the Love Sponge, and Howard Stern. The FCC stated that next, they will be going after Cable, and XM radio. In essence - putting a gagball on our first constitutional right.

Jesus.

By the way - do you know that of the over 500,000 complaints to the FCC, only 57 (fifty seven) were complaining about radio and television ? The rest were complaining about Janet's titty.

Now the government is going to "Protect us" by being overly reactionary and taking away our freedom of speech - which ironically enough is protected by the constitution (it is illegal to pass a law that tries to prohibit freedom of speech ... just by the way ...), and sanitizing what we see and hear in the media. Thats downright bullshit. I'm having flashbacks to the Patriot Act.

The only reason you and I can post freely here, and not be fined 500K every time we "offend" someone, is because the FCC has no regulation over the internet. Trust me. That is the ONLY reason.

I'm a Republican. Come this November i'll be voting Democrat straight across the board. Not that they're any better, but to send a message. I don't need the Religious Right forcing government to stomp on my freedoms under the guise that they are "protecting" me. I can protect myself by switching the channel or turning the dial. In fact, I find the Relgious Right offensive.

I won't even get started on Bush running daddy's religious agenda, seperation of church and state, or how many congressmen are financially supported or housed by the Religious Right.

Please take time and protect your freedom of Speech. Vote Bush the fuck out of office along with that no-talent Michael (McCarthy) Powell.

Don't take my word for it. Enlighten yourself with some "required reading":

Oh my Lord! I saw a tittie on TV for a split second, I'm highly offended

Pretty soon you are going to be getting sued for sneezing on people, it's already rediculous enough...

*cough* excuse me.

What the fuck? did you just call me a black piece of shit nigger?

Huh? no I coughed...

Fuck you man, i'm sueing y0 ass, biatch~!#

America is doomed, I mean i'm surprised you are all still alive with gay marriges and black boobs corrupting your society, the horror! It blows me away how in both our countries high paid civil service types spend their time and our money jerking off into their desk drawers.

You can't have a Republican executive AND a republican legislature. You need to have one be one party, and the other be the second. This shit (the "clean air act", "patriot act" and this newest fcc bullshit) is what happens when you all but get rid of checks and balances. Our constitution wasn't made for a government with political parties being so polarized. I think if there is a democrat in the executive branch, the republicans should have some handicap that gives them a 1 vote majority in the legislature by default, and vice versa. Not sure how one would put this into practice, but I think its important as hell.

I signed it, of course.

On a simular subject, I'll bet 20 bucks that bush will call the amendment to ban gay unions the "Gay Rights Act" (based on the naming of the "Patriot Act" and of course the "Clean Air Act" which actually lessened the restrictions on emissions. Wtf)

So how long until the FCC figures out how to regulate the internet?

Can you say, "China"?

They will probably hold ISP's or server owners responsible for what is said on their respective technology.

It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. At that point, I hope we have an offshore server space, lol

You should put this as News Ghecko.

After yesterdays vote, ive been steaming in RL over the recent FCC decision, and more importantly - I'm also a little bit scared. Politicians have had their eyes on the Internet for a long time now, be it for taxation purposes, or just to have a say in the kind of "material" that gets spread around. This nonsense gave us the digital millenium act and this proposed bill http://www.stoppoliceware.org

I have little doubt that they will be coming after Cable and the Internet next, and in many ways they already have. I also planned to not vote for Bush this coming election, even though i despise John Kerry. It's about the only way we can make an anti-censorship stand.

Ive also been a Howard Stern fan since his WNBC days. The fact that they will be forcing him off the airwaves and onto satellite radio pisses me off to no end.

You know what I find offensive?

<RANT ON>

Oral Roberts on television saying that if the blue-hairs don't drum up 10 million dollars, a 900 foot Jesus said he was going to kill him and "take him to heaven".

I'm also offended by Reverend Robert Tilton, asking people on TV to send in a prayer request, and stuff 1000 dollars in the envelope, because then God will "know they're faithful christians", and if they don't have 1000 to donate, beg steal or borrow it because God will repay them in heaven for being so faithful with their pocketbooks.

I'm offended by Reverend Jimmy Swaggert asking me to forgive him for fucking a hooker in a hotel room after years of telling people they are going to hell for being indecent.

I was switching thru the channels a few months ago and stopped on some Televangelist show where some lady was crying. She had 3 foot high purple hair, and more makeup running down her tear streaked face than Tammy Faye Baker. My young daughter said "Look daddy! Muppets!". I'm offended that she had to see that.

I'm offended half our congress is on the Bible-thumpers payroll.

I'm offended that my tax dollars are not fixing the pot-holes on the freeway i take daily to work, but instead paying for Michael Powell's travel expenses (first class due to hip injury) around the US so he can play Thought Police and sue people for being "indecent".

I'm offended that the only person in the Media speaking out against this is Howard Stern, and that 1 Republican who voted against the anti-decency bill passed yesterday. Where are the Edward R. Murrow's? Where the fuck is my local congressman?

I'm offended that my freedoms as a US citizen as defined by the constution of the united states, are slowly being taken away from me in order to "protect" my virgin ears and eyes.

I'm offended that the government thinks they know what is better for my family, than I do.

Vote Democrat. Vote Libertarian. Vote Green Party. Vote for fucking Mickey Mouse if you want to. Just please don't vote for Bush and his morally funded Thought Police.

</RANT OFF>
